When Wisconsin police found Ashley Ann Calo unconscious in her crashed car, the 33-year-old mother was slumped over her steering wheel, and a 3-year-old child was moving around in the backseat.

Now, the Fond du Lac Police Department says they are investigating the death as a homicide, per Wbay.com, WeAreGreenbay.com and NBC26.

Annaka Winter Trudell – arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree reckless homicide – is now behind bars at the Fond du Lac County jail, the local outlets reported.

An unidentified 21-year-old man has also been arrested, charged with harboring or aiding a felon, per the outlets.

PEOPLE's inquiry for more information about the case was not immediately returned. It's not clear if either suspect has retained an attorney or entered a plea.

Responding to a report of a single-car crash just before 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13, police determined that Calo had crashed into landscaping bricks, her car landing atop some nearby shrubbery, per Wbay.com and WeAreGreenbay.com.

While investigators have not provided many details of Calo’s death, her friend Jason Smith told WeAreGreenbay.com in an interview that “she was stabbed twice, once in the stomach and once in the neck.”

First responders began performing life-saving efforts at the scene. Calo was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, per Wbay.com and WeAreGreenbay.com.

As of Thursday, police were still waiting for the Fond du Lac Medical Examiner’s Office to conduct an autopsy to establish the cause and manner of death, the three outlets report.

The toddler – identified as Calo’s son by WeAreGreenbay.com – was unharmed, per Wbay.com and WeAreGreenbay.com.

Calo’s friend, Hollyann Zastrow – who helped set up a GoFundMe to cover funeral costs and support the woman’s 3-year-old boy – said on the fundraising page that her death was a tragic end to the life of a woman who “was the type of person that would be there for you no matter what” and who “was the greatest friend one could ask for.”

“She loved her son more than anything in this world,” Zastrow said in the post. “She had a smile that could brighten up even the darkest room.”
