After a two-year hiatus, this year’s Milan Design Week—one of the biggest events on the industry’s calendar—is officially in full swing, with journalists, decorators, industrial designers, and more descending upon the Italian city to gallery hop, navigate the gigantic Salone del Mobile furniture fair, and (of course!) nab the obligatory Negroni Sbagliato from Bar Basso.
ELLE DECOR and its international sister publications, a network that comprises 25 worldwide editions, took this opportunity to stage a family reunion of sorts. On Wednesday, editors from across the globe gathered to celebrate the 20th-annual ELLE DECO International Design Awards (EDIDA), a series of honors recognizing the brightest and boldest talents in 15 categories, including furniture, lighting, tabletop, and more. Each winner is handpicked by the editors in chief of each edition across the ELLE Decoration International Network.
The cocktail celebration—held at Garage 21, an elegant industrial space in the city’s chic Zona Risorgimento neighborhood—brought together dozens of ELLE DECOR editors, hailing from locations as far afield as the United Kingdom and, notably, Ukraine. As with Design Week, it was the first time in two years that the EDIDA event (sponsored by the French luxury automaker DS Autos) was staged in person; as the roster of winners proves, it’s clear that good design is all in the family.
