Windy, Dry Conditions Raise Fire Risk in Southeast Colorado

Gusty winds and low relative humidity created critical fire weather conditions for parts of Colorado on Tuesday, February 28, the National Weather Service (NWS) warned.

This footage from the Colorado State Police (CSP) in La Junta shows powerful winds and “poor visibility” as tumbleweeds blow over the roadway at Highway 287 and Highway 116 in Baca County.

“Empty/lightweight vehicles should sit this one out,” the CSP wrote on Twitter.

A red-flag warning for fires was in effect for the area until Tuesday evening.
