Wildlife park hosts gender reveal party for panda

Kai Kai, who will turn 14 on September 14, released a cloud of blue confetti at the party for the cub, the first born in the Southeast Asian country. Kai Kai and mother panda Jia Jia, 12, arrived in 2012 on a decade-long loan from China and produced the cub through artificial insemination.

Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) said the cub born on August 14 will be in named in a public competition.

The organisation said that the entries will be judged by representatives from the Chinese embassy, government agencies and WRS.China has been sending its black and white ambassadors abroad in a sign of goodwill since the 1950s as part of what is known as "panda diplomacy".
