Wildfires Rage in France's Gironde Department
Over a thousand firefighters worked to tackle a wildfire burning for the fifth day in southwest France, local officials said.
According to government officials in the Gironde department, more than 1,200 firefighters have been mobilized to fight wildfires in the region. 10,000 hectares, or approximately 24,710 acres, have burned so far amid hot weather and strong winds, officials reported.
Video filmed by the Gironde fire department, Sapeurs-Pompiers 33, and released on July 15 shows a fire burning in a wooded area near Bordeaux. The department reminded people to facilitate access for emergency services, remain cautious, and to never throw cigarette butts into the forest. Credit: Sapeurs-Pompiers 33 via Storyful
