Wildfire Reaches Beaches in Southwest France

Wildfires burning in the Gironde region of France reached the beach at La Teste-de-Buch, video posted on July 17 shows.

Videos filmed by La Cabane du Paliquey, a local restaurant, on July 17 and 18 show the fire approaching the beach and two firefighting planes loading up with seawater off the shore.

Gironde regional firefighters, Pompiers 33, said 15,200 hectares (58 square miles) had burned since July 12.

According to Pompiers 33, three firefighters and two soldiers were injured while working to battle the blaze near La Teste-de-Buch on Sunday.

According to local reports 16,000 people across Gironde were evacuated on Monday, including from areas in La Teste-de-Buch and Pyla-sur-Mer. Credit: La Cabane du Paliquey via Storyful
