As Prince Harry and Prince William’s feud continues, the brothers are having to figure out a way to navigate their estrangement among longtime mutual friends. Case in point: According to People, the royals were both invited to the wedding of Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster, in what’s being called Britain’s society wedding of the year. However, sources tell People that the Duke of Sussex had a conversation with the groom-to-be and decided to bow out of the invitation.

Described as an “understanding between two friends” by an insider, both Prince Harry and Grosvenor came to a mutual decision during their conversation. They hope that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle declining the invitation will prevent the nuptials from getting overshadowed by the brothers’ feud. Meanwhile, Prince William will reportedly be an usher during the June 7 ceremony, which means he could have had to escort his brother to his seat – another potentially awkward situation.

The Duke of Westminster, who will be marrying Olivia Henson at Chester Cathedral followed by a reception at his estate on Friday, has been linked to both Prince Harry and Prince William since childhood, and continues to have close relationships with both of the brothers. Grosvenor is reportedly both Prince Archie and Prince George’s godfather, and Prince George is expected to also attend the wedding.

In addition to Prince Harry and Markle, a number of other prominent royals are also expected to skip the highly-anticipated 400-person ceremony. King Charles, who is Grosvenor’s godfather, will be in France at a royal D-Day commemoration event the day before, so it’s unlikely he and Queen Camilla will be making an appearance. It’s also believed that Princess Kate, who’s currently undergoing treatment for cancer and has taken a step back from her royal duties, will not be accompanying her husband to the Friday ceremony.
