Why Whoopi Goldberg Was M.I.A. From The View Thursday

The View‘s Thursday broadcast was missing one of the panel’s most powerful voices: Co-host Whoopi Goldberg was absent due to testing positive for COVID-19.

“You might have noticed Whoopi’s not here,” co-host Joy Behar said at the top of the program, “because Whoopi has tested positive for COVID. It’s going around still! You have to be careful.”

It is unknown how many more episodes Goldberg might have to sit out due to the diagnosis.

The show quickly moved on after Behar’s note to discuss the 2024 election between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, in addition to the contentious interaction between Speaker Emerita of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi and ABC news reporter Rachel Scott.

This is the third time a COVID diagnosis has caused Goldberg to sit out The View‘s broadcasts, having previously missed episodes due to the virus in November 2022 and September 2023. She also sat out in February 2023 for several days due to what Behar at the time called “a bad cold.”

The View‘s other five co-hosts — Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro — were all present for Thursday’s show, which also featured Senator John Fetterman from Pennsylvania and The Boys star Antony Starr.
