Why Kailyn Lowry Doesn't Want to 'Rush' Into Engagement with Boyfriend Elijah Despite Him 'Pushing' for It (Exclusive)
The couple — who quietly welcomed their first child together, but her fifth overall — are currently expecting twins
As a mother of five who has two more little ones on the way, getting engaged isn't necessarily Kailyn Lowry's top priority.
But it is something she has thought about, especially as her relationship with her boyfriend Elijah Scott continues to go well.
"He's been pushing for it," Lowry, 31, exclusively tells PEOPLE. "But I've already kind of done marriage once and I f---ed it up royally. So I'm a little hesitant."
The Barely Famous podcast host notes that because the couple just "jumped right into parenthood together," she wants to enjoy that milestone first before taking the next step forward in her relationship.
"I kind of would like to have something to look forward to in the future instead of doing everything all at once," she explains. "I think we have time. If we're meant to be together, then we don't need to rush into it tomorrow."
Lowry and Scott quietly welcomed their first child together, son Rio, last year. Now, the twosome are currently expecting twins.
The Teen Mom alum — who shares sons Creed, 3, Lux, 6, Lincoln, 9, and Isaac, 13, with partners from previous relationships — has enjoyed watching Scott dive into fatherhood full force as well as putting effort into their making their love work.
Regarding his parenting skills, in particular, she notes it was "second nature" for Scott.
"It's been good. It's been very different from my other partners and my kids' other dads," she says of their relationship. "He pours concrete, he gets down and dirty at work. But he's also just a real family man. He's very, very much connected with his own family, with our family, and so he's been a really good partner to me, and I feel like it's a really good match."

Aside from balancing her relationship, her five children and twins on the way, Lowry continues to build her podcast empire. But admittedly, because of her busy schedule, she doesn't currently make time for herself.

"My time will come," the Coffee Convos podcaster says. "At some point, I'll have time for myself. But right now, I really love being a mom and I love podcasting. And so, my me-time is getting ready to go to football games, basketball games and occasionally getting my nails done. And I'm good with that right now."
