Why Elisabeth Röhm 'Leans In' When Things Are 'Difficult' with Husband Peter Glatzer: 'You've Made a Commitment' (Exclusive)
The couple got married in October 2021 in an intimate ceremony held at their Los Angeles home
Elisabeth Röhm and her husband Peter Glatzer are committed to being there for each other during the good, the bad and the ugly.
In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE, the director, 51, opens up about the couple's relationship rules and how they've learned to stay the course during trying moments instead of walking away.
"It's about making space for each other and not falling into the old trope of needing to control one another or possess too much," Rohm says of her marriage to Glatzer. "We give each other a lot of freedom and just a lot of kindness and respect, so it always comes down to how you communicate and how you never judge."
The Law & Order alum recalls a piece of advice she recently received: "When you want to leave, just don't."
"It's like, 'Hey, you've made a commitment,'" she continued. "I find this in my own work life or personal life. When things are difficult, lean in. That's not when we leave. If we left when it was challenging, we would never have the results that's so satisfying."
Rohm and Glatzer wed in October 2021 in an intimate ceremony held in the backyard of their Los Angeles home. In a post shared to Instagram the following month, Rohm announced the news with a series of photos of the couple on their wedding day.
"So… I have some news!" she wrote at the time. "Beyond happy and blessed to be married to the wonderful Peter Glatzer @glatzerama #wegotmarried."

In an interview with The New York Times, the newlyweds shared that their 30-minute ceremony was officiated by a friend. Also in attendance was Rohm's 13-year-old daughter Easton (with ex Ron Anthony Wooster) and Glatzer's brother Jonathan. Afterward, they drank champagne and enjoyed a meal Rohm likened to "a Thanksgiving dinner."
When the two announced their engagement with PEOPLE in July 2021, Rohm revealed that she and Glatzer had an "instant connection" when they met several years ago. The duo were first friends and their relationship eventually became romantic.

"We met through a very close mutual friend and had an instant connection and a beautiful strong bond. Thanks to COVID slowing us down, we had the opportunity to recognize and acknowledge that the friendship between us had become much more," she recalled.
Glatzer also added, "The moment I met Lis four years ago, I felt so drawn to her. Since she was seeing someone at the time, I pursued a friendship. I'm so glad that I did. It's a great basis for a marriage."
