Whoopi Goldberg accepted “Ghost” reunion with Tony Goldwyn without reading script: 'Tell me where to show up'

Goldberg appears in Goldwyn's new movie "Ezra" alongside Bobby Cannavale, Rose Byrne, and Robert De Niro.

Whoopi Goldberg knew she wasn't in danger (girl) when she accepted an offer from Ghost costar Tony Goldwyn to star in his new movie Ezra without reading the script.

Goldwyn reunited with Goldberg on Tuesday's episode of The View, on which the actor-director appeared with his stars Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale, who lead Ezra as parents raising an autistic son while the latter takes him on a long road trip.

Cohost Sara Haines — who regularly professes her love for Goldberg's work in Ghost — asked Goldwyn how the pair's reunion happened, some 34 years after they both worked together in 1990's Ghost.

"I literally just emailed. Bobby and I were talking when the movie started to come together, we're like, 'You know who'd be amazing as Jane, [Bobby's character's] manager? Whoopi. I just sent Whoopi an email going, 'Hey, I'm doing this movie with Bobby and Bob De Niro, there's this part you'd be perfect for. Can I send you the script?'" Goldwyn recalled. "You wrote me back immediately going, 'I'm in, just tell me where to show.' I said, 'Don't you want to read the script?' She was like, 'No, I'm there. Just tell me where to go!'"

Goldberg, who won an Oscar for playing a medium communicating with Patrick Swayze's spirit in Ghost, praised Goldwyn — who played the primary antagonist in the blockbuster drama — as "a wonderful partner" to work with on screen.

"If he says he’s got something, I don’t care how other people respond to it. I’m there," Goldberg confirmed on The View. "The vibe of the film was like, yeah, I want to be part of this. People don’t usually ask me. So, when somebody says 'Hey, you want to come play?' It’s like, yes!"

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, fellow Ghost star Demi Moore, who starred in the production as the still-living girlfriend of Swayze's character, shared her thoughts on a potential remake after Channing Tatum said in 2023 that he planned to film a contemporary interpretation of the movie.

"Look, every story in some ways has already been told. The wonderful thing is the different way things can be reinterpreted," Moore told EW while promoting her Cannes hit The Substance. "I think there are some films that often are better left not touched, and left, and then sometimes there are wonderful surprises in that reinterpretation."

Ezra is in theaters Friday.
