What's open, closed on Canada Day in N.B.?

Canada Day falls on a Monday this year and most retail and city services will be closed for the holiday, while many tourist attractions will remain open.

Celebrations and fireworks will be held across the province, and details can be found on municipality websites.

Here's a more comprehensive list of what's open and closed on Canada Day in New Brunswick:

Retail and grocery
  • Sobeys, Walmart, Atlantic Superstore will be closed.

  • N.B. Liquor and Cannabis N.B. will be closed.

  • Most Shoppers Drug Mart locations will be open, hours depend on location.

  • Saint John City Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Regent Mall in Fredericton will be closed.

  • CF Champlain mall in Dieppe will be closed.

  • McAllister Place in Saint John will be closed. 

Tourism attractions
  • Magnetic Hill Zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Beaverbrook Art Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • The Fredericton Region Museum will be open.

  • The Fundy Discovery Aquarium will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Kings Landing will be open.

Government offices, public services
  • Saint John Transit will not run.

  • Saint John City Hall and offices will be closed.

  • Moncton City Hall and municipal offices will be closed.

  • Fredericton Transit will not run.

  • All public libraries and administrative offices will be closed.

  • Service New Brunswick will be closed.

Canada Day fireworks
  • A fireworks display in Saint John over Lower Cove will begin at 10 p.m., weather permitting.

  • Moncton, Riverview and Dieppe will have a fireworks display at Moncton's Riverfront Park beginning at 10 p.m.

  • Fredericton will set off a fireworks display from the Westmorland Street Bridge beginning at 10:40 p.m. The bridge will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic from around 7:30 p.m. to midnight for the display.
