What's next for Hishammuddin? 'This is just the beginning,' says Sembrong MP after six-year suspension

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 — Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein today said he will meet with the Sembrong Umno division to discuss his next course of action after he was suspended from the party for six years.

“The party’s supreme council has decided to suspend my membership for six years. Regarding my next step, I have to discuss with the Sembrong Umno leadership to figure out what the next direction and actions should be,” he said in a video posted on his social media account.

His post drew thousands of responses in the comment section, with many supporters saying they would “wait” for his return, while some speculated whether he would join other parties.

Hishammuddin was among several party leaders who were handed a suspension period by the party for allegedly breaching party discipline.

However, he reassured his supporters that the disciplinary action taken against him will not be able to sway his will to fight for the people and the country.

“What happened never once broke my spirit to keep fighting for religion, race and country.

“This is not the end, this is merely the beginning. A new beginning,” he said.

Last night, the party’s supreme council decided to internally purge itself of enemies — resulting in 44 party members being exiled and four members being given a suspension.

Among the 44 sacked were former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin and former Selangor Tan Sri Noh Omar, while former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan was given a six-year suspension.

Hishammuddin was reportedly suspended for being the main driver behind the Barisan Nasional MPs signing statutory declarations (SD) backing Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.
