'They were firing at eye-level': Afghan evacuees

One man, a police officer, said he had been at work when he first heard the Taliban was entering Kabul. Taliban fighters came to his house searching for him the next morning, asking neighbors for his whereabouts, including with a photo of him.

Another described how Taliban fired assault rifles "at eye level" near the crowds swarming Kabul airport as he tried to get to the entrance. His wife fainted in the panic and his son was crying in his arms.

The interviews were recorded by Italy's defense ministry at an unidentified location near Rome.
