Your week in chic: Selfridges open a joke shop and Penélope Cruz makes £100 shoes
SELFRIDGES SHOPPING LOLS
Ready for a laugh? Selfridges is turning its Corner Shop space into the coolest joke shop we’ve ever seen. Alongside all your 99p childhood party-bag favourites (is that a rubber chicken or are you just pleased to see us?) they’ve cleverly curated the silliest pieces of chic from an array of fashion’s wittiest minds. Want more funny? Aaron Esh (who’s whipped up caps with hair stylist John Allan) asks: ‘Why wasn’t the mushroom invited to the party?’ ‘Cos he wasn’t a fun-guy.’ Not snorting yet? Han Waite, founder of Cowboys of Habit (very into his Whoopee Cushion, actual cushion) asks: ‘What did the cowboy say at his second rodeo?’ Ready for it? ‘This ain’t my first rodeo.’ Okay, we’ll stop. Don’t step on the fake poo.
The Joke Shop opens on 7 March at Selfridges, Oxford Street, W1
SPRING (DIGITAL) CLEAN
News in from the finale of fashion month: prepare for an analog mood. At The Row, guests were banned from using their phones; instead they were given a rather chic Japanese notebook and pencil on their seats to record their observations. Show-goers spent their free time nipping into Sarah Andelman’s (ex creative director of cult Parisian boutique Colette) new book-themed space, Mise en Page, at department store Le Bon Marché. Earlier, both Roksanda and Matthieu Blazy at Bottega Veneta referenced the lo-fi Le Cabanon, Le Corbusier’s one-room, shack-like retreat in the hills above Monaco. At Bottega guests sat on simple wooden stools based on the Modernist’s original piece from his holiday home. Meanwhile at Moschino and Undercover, models accessorised with market bags, bouquets and baguettes (also given to attendees as they left at The Row). Log off, grab a paperback and smell the flowers, kids.
CRUZ SHOES
Pep up your look with a pair of kicks from Penélope and Mónica Cruz’s second collaboration for Geox. The sisters have deliberated over pretty candy pink loafers, chic white sandals and colour pop trainers, as well as four outerwear pieces. ‘We love fashion and we like working together. Which is why we decided to do it again,’ says Penélope.
