“Construction and weddings are polar opposites,” La Galleria Event Venue owner Cherie Carducci told News 4.

Construction of the new Buffalo Bills stadium in Orchard, NY has forced a nearby wedding venue to shut its doors— at least for now.

Augustin and Cherie Carducci, the owners of La Galleria Event Venue on Southwestern Boulevard told News 4 that the decision came after couples kept canceling their weddings at the venue due to the construction of the Bills' new stadium. Carducci opened the venue in 1976. Since then the venue's undergone several changes.

“Construction and weddings are polar opposites,” Cherie told the outlet. She added that since the Bills broke ground on the project in June 2023 they've had to make more changes.

"As some of you may have heard LG is taking a bit of a pause as we think about our future," the owners also posted on their website. "After 47 years, 3000 weddings and hosting over 2.6 million guests, our neighbors, the Buffalo Bills, have decided to build their new home right adjacent to our property."

They added: "Being at the actual front door of the new stadium is SO very exciting but right now with all of the construction it does not allow us to offer the high quality weddings for which we have been known. We LOVE doing events and have BIG ideas in mind for our very own construction projects. Hang in there with us because our designers are already hard at work!"

The owners also explained that before the construction began, their wedding venue overlooked a large wooden area, which was a big draw for couples to get married there. Now, they said that few trees remain and instead, the view has been replaced with a view of the construction site.

“Weddings are emotional and it was a shock to the brides that have booked with us and a little bit of a shock to us, we didn’t know exactly where the stadium was going or how close,” Augustin said. “I imagine we’re about 100 yards from the stadium. We’re about the closest property there is.”

“When the woods came down and the fence came up, we wrote them all letters and said come and take a look at it. Know what you’re having before your wedding. both this year and next and not happy and I get it,” Cherie added.

They added that they are currently in the process of trying to figure out what the future looks like for them. So while they've closed their doors for now, they hope it's not forever.

“We have lots of ideas swirling around. Anything from hotels to high end apartments, that would be in conjunction with weddings even,” Cherie said. “But take some time, we want to see what’s around other NFL stadiums.”

“We think it’ll be a premier venue once the construction phase is over. So we thought we’d match it and do our construction during theirs,” Augustin said.

“We’re excited to think about our lives in a different way now with this and that we don’t blame anybody,” Cherie said. “It gave us a whole new lease on reinventing ourselves.”
