Watching Liverpool scouts wowed as £26m-rated striker hits four but still ends up on losing side
Liverpool scouts were reportedly in attendance to watch a highly-rated Montpellier striker score four times against Lyon at the weekend and still end up on the losing side.
Elye Wahi hit a superb quadruple for his side but they still lost out as former Arsenal frontman Alexander Lacazette also hit four as Lyon triumphed 5-4 after netting a last-minute penalty to secure the points.
And France Bleu Herault, as relayed by Made In Monegasque, claims that Reds scouts where there to see it all.
However, they were not the only ones watching, with talent scouts from seven other clubs also said to be watching.
Wahi is reportedly leaning towards a move to either England or Germany when the 20-year-old does decide that the time is right to move on.
After his blitz at the weekend, Wahi has now taken his tally for the season to an impressive 17 goals.
The young forward also notched 10 times last term and is clearly an impressive talent who could net Montpellier a sizeable sum.
Indeed, the report adds that Montpellier manager Michel Der Zakarian claims that Wahi, who has previously been linked with Tottenham, won’t be sold for less than £26million.
Wahi deal could be too good to turn down
And while a new striker is not thought to be on Liverpool’s agenda this summer, at that asking price Wahi may prove to be too good to turn down.
The Reds were also said to have been watching Lyon’s Bradley Barcola in that topsy-turvy contest, and they will have been impressed.
The 20-year-old midfielder notched three assists for his team as they eventually ran out winners.
Liverpool are back in action on Monday night as they head to struggling Leicester still looking to gatecrash the top four.
