Charlotte Hornets rookie guard LaMelo Ball was cleared to resume individual basketball activity after a CT scan confirmed his broken right wrist has healed, the team announced Monday. Ball sustained the injury on March 20 in a game against the Los Angeles Clippers. ESPN reported that Ball could return to action in seven to 10 days.

Former Vice President Walter F. Mondale, a liberal icon who lost the most lopsided presidential election after bluntly telling voters to expect a tax increase if he won, died Monday. Mondale followed the trail blazed by his political mentor, Hubert H. Humphrey, from Minnesota politics to the U.S. Senate and the vice presidency, serving under Jimmy Carter from 1977 to 1981. In a statement Monday night, Carter said he considered Mondale “the best vice president in our country’s history.”

Mondale, the first major U.S. party presidential nominee to pick a woman running mate, believed in an activist government and worked for civil rights, school integration, consumer protection and farm and labor interests as a U.S. senator and vice president during Carter's troubled one-term presidency from 1977 to 1981.

Three months after more than 25,000 National Guard troops poured into the nation's capital to secure President Joe Biden's inauguration, Defense Department and Guard officials are losing patience and are denying some of the city's recurring requests for troops to protect D.C. According to defense officials, the Army on Monday approved only about a quarter of the Guard troops requested by city officials to provide security in case of unrest after the upcoming verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin. The D.C. National Guard confirmed that acting Army Secretary John Whitley has approved the deployment of 250 troops, but officials said the city's initial request was for as many as 1,000.

Not surprisingly, it also won the top prize from the Cinema Audio Society. “Minari” While Lee Isaac Chung’s family drama was nominated for lots of guild awards, its only wins were for Yun-Jung Youn in the supporting actress category at SAG, and in the low-budget category at the Artios Awards. “Judas and the Black Messiah” This late-breaking film won a SAG Award for supporting actor Daniel Kaluuya but was otherwise shut out. “The Father” Florian Zeller’s intimate film was the only Best Picture nominee not to win a guild award.
