Bernard Waber’s “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” book series is now a major motion picture. The live action/CGI musical comedy stars a whole host of names, including one Canadian singer as the voice of a talented crocodile. The film will feature songs performed by star Shawn Mendes and written by the songwriting team behind “The Greatest Showman” — Benj Pasek and Justin Paul — with an ensemble cast that includes Javier Bardem and Constance Wu.

For “Lyle,” Pasek and Paul are joined by Ari Afsar, Emily Gardner, Xu Hall, Mark Sonnenblick and Joriah Kwamé. Will Speck and Josh Gordon directed and produced the film, with a screenplay by Will Davies. Hutch Parker also produces, and executive producers include Kevin K. Vafi, Dan Wilson, Robert J. Is “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” Streaming or in Theaters?

For now, the film is set to only release theatrically, but after a certain amount of time on the big screen, it is bound to hit a streamer. Since Sony is the film’s distributor and the company has a deal with Netflix, ‘Lyle’ will likely head there, but previous films under this deal have taken five or six months to land on the streamer after they ran in theaters.

So for right now, the only way to see “Lyle, Lyle Crocodile” is in movie theaters. Check your local listings.

What Is “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” About?

Hector P. Valenti (Javier Bardem) is in search of a new magical act after his latest flop, which also cost him money he now owes to various people. When he visits “Eddie’s Exotic Animals” pet shop, he overhears a cute little crocodile singing in the back in his cage. Valenti purchases the small reptile, naming him Lyle, but after he tries to train Lyle to sing onstage and the crocodile gets stage fright, freezing mid-act, Valenti vanishes to go make money.

The Primm’s move into Valenti’s family brownstone, where their son Josh (Winslow Fegley) discovers Lyle one night, and the two become fast friends. Josh’s mom (Constance Wu) and dad (Scoot McNairy) eventually grow fond of Lyle too, but controlling downstairs neighbor Mr. Grumps (Brett Gelman) cannot be won over, no matter how hard everyone tries. Josh realizes that he has to get the world to see that Lyle can sing in order for others not to fear the friendly crocodile.

Who Is in the “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” Cast?

Shawn Mendes voices the adorable Lyle. Javier Bardem plays magician Hector P. Valenti. Constance Wu and Scoot McNairy portray Josh’s parents, and Josh is played by Winslow Fegley. Brett Gelman appears as Mr. Grumps, who gets involved all because he is a helicopter parent to his cat Loretta.
