Watch: White House holds press briefing ahead of Trump visit

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre briefed reporters Tuesday afternoon.

The event came a day before President-elect Trump and President Biden are set to meet at the White House. Biden has vowed to ensure a peaceful transfer of power in January after Trump was declared the winner of the White House race last week.

The visit is a return to a ritual that was paused after the 2020 election, following the president-elect’s unsubstantiated claims of election fraud.

Republicans also maintained control of the House and flipped the Senate, another major victory for the former president.

Trump, according to his team, said he was “looking forward” to the meeting.

(Reuters) -China has banned exports to the U.S. of items related to the minerals gallium, germanium and antimony that have potential military applications, its commerce ministry said on Tuesday, a day after Washington's latest crackdown on China's chip sector. Beijing's directive on so-called dual-use items with both military and civilian use, which cites national security concerns and takes immediate effect, also requires stricter review of end-usage for graphite items shipped to the U.S. "In principle, the export of gallium, germanium, antimony, and superhard materials to the United States shall not be permitted," the ministry said.
