Watch: Harris in Georgia gives update on federal response to Hurricane Helene

Vice President Harris visited Georgia and North Carolina on Wednesday to see the damage done by Hurricane Helene.

During her visit to Atlanta, Harris was expected to provide an update on response and recovery efforts by the Biden administration after the deadly storm flooded states across the Southeastern U.S. and left many without power or usable water for days.

The visit came after President Biden directed the Defense Department to send up to 1,000 active-duty soldiers to disaster areas to help with the distribution of food, water and other supplies. Biden also visited the Carolinas Wednesday.

Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, was originally scheduled to travel to Pennsylvania, a critical swing state ahead of the election, on a bus tour with her running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D).

The vice president’s remarks from Augusta, Ga., were scheduled for 4 p.m. EDT.
