In September 2019, HGTV's Karen E Laine announced via blog post that she was retiring from Two Chicks and a Hammer (although would still appear on Good Bones). In her post, she listed all the things she planned to do in her retirement, one of which was to spend "more time in the garden." Laine has kept to her word. During her latest planting project, she even tapped Martha Stewart for some help—and the resulting video call is the wholesome content we all need this week.
On the latest episode of Martha Knows Best, which airs Wednesday, November 4 at 8:00pm ET/PT on HGTV, Stewart is working with her head gardener Ryan McCallister to plant allium and daffodils. The two take a break to video chat fellow HGTV star Karen E Laine, who's suited up in denim. "You look like my sister in your jean overalls," Stewart teases Laine when their video call connects.
"Yeah I think we're brothers from another mother, I don't know,' Laine responds, appearing humbled by the comment. "I think we're related somehow," she said.
Laine is currently planting winter aconites; however, she is unsure of how deep to plant the tubers—which are about one-eighth of an inch. "Those are the size of a lentil," Stewart exclaims as Laine held up them up to the screen
Stewart then asks Laine which tool she'll be using to plant. When pulls out her large root slayer shovel, to which Stewarts offers up a better suggestion: a dibber. As Stewart explains, a dibber is an ideal tool for smaller planting projects as shovels will mess up your surrounding plants.
The 79-year-old HGTV star tells Laine that she’ll be sending her a dibber. As if Stewart’s gesture wasn’t heartwarming enough, Laine asks "Are you going to send an address to which I can send a thank you note? Because I'm classy like that." she continued. Stewart adds that she will, appreciative of Laine’s etiquette.
Talk about heartwarming, yet informative content! Martha Knows Best is currently airing on HGTV every Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET/ PT. Good Bones is set to return for season six in summer 2021.
