Demi Lovato belted out the national anthem Sunday ahead of Super Bowl LIV — but did she make or cost you money on the over/under?
BetOnline.ag had Lovato’s line at 1:56. The singer actually clocked in at around 1:50, unofficially. A final official number will come, but it won’t change the fact that she came in under the line.
It was quite a journey to get back to the one-minute, 56-second betting mark, which is what the line was when it first came out. Shortly after the line was revealed, Lovato’s over/under rose to 2:01 — and then again to 2:03.
But as TheWrap reported exclusively on Friday, after an apparently speedy rehearsal, the mark dropped by nine seconds — that’s an eternity in the context of the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
That 1:52 made its way back to the original 1:56 by *go* time.
For those who placed a bet — over or under — at any of the previous lines, they’re locked in. Only horse-racing has moving odds.
Click here for a great chart of national anthem lengths from Super Bowl XXV to Super Bowl LI. We’ll round it out: At Super Bowl LII, Pink came in at 1:52, under her two-minute line. Last year, Gladys Knight lasted 1:49, which was also under. (There was some controversy with Knight, however, as she decided to hit “brave” a second time, which took her to 2:01. That would have been well OVER the 1:50 line, had the repeat word counted.)
And here, USA Today kindly clocked a bunch of Lovato’s previous public performance of the patriotic Francis Scott Key song.
As for that other uber-popular pre-game prop bet, the coin toss came up tails.
Lovato won’t be the only famous pop star performing Sunday in Miami. Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will co-headline the Pepsi Halftime Show.
Good luck to the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. At kickoff, the AFC Champion Chiefs were favored to win by 1 point. The over/under for the combined scores of both teams was up to 54.5 points.
The Season 3 finale of Fox’s hit reality competition “The Masked Singer” premieres after the Super Bowl.
