If you haven't teared up today, we're here to change that.
To bring some joy to those in need this holiday season, country act Dan + Shay, comprised of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, partnered with Safe Haven Family Shelter, a shelter-to-housing program in Nashville, to surprise three families with beautifully furnished homes, complete with plenty of Christmas decorations.
Also collaborating with Ashley HomeStore, Dan + Shay helped each of the three home enjoy a complete makeover with personalized décor for each family. To surprise everybody when they arrived home to see the transformation for the first time, the duo were waiting behind the door to give each family a tour of their abode. In addition to helping with the home makeovers, Smyers and Mooney also sat down with the families to open some presents and played some music at the Safe Haven Family Shelter.
"It's gonna be a really, really special day. We're fired up about it," Smyers said before the big reveal. As you watch the adults and kiddos enter their updated homes, it's hard to keep it together when you see the genuine joy and gratitude they exude.
"I love Dan + Shay. And I love the warmth they're giving my kids," one mom says of the surprise. She later adds, "We never had a Christmas tree, we never had a home, and now my kids can have the perfect Christmas that I always wanted them to have."
"I think I've actually accomplished the hardest thing that I was battling with, which was not having a home for my daughter," another mom says.
Giving back was clearly a meaningful experience for the singers: "And for us to be able to come here, to sing some songs and help people get back on their feet, to get into a home, to get some amazing new furniture is an incredible feeling for us," says Smyers. "So to be able to help out them at a time when they need it, to provide those families not just a place to live, but also a place to call home. And then to be a small part of that is truly an honor," Mooney continues.
