Lynsey (Jennifer Lawrence), an Afghanistan war veteran, struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and while she has undergone many therapy sessions since her service, she wants nothing more than to re-deploy instead of returning to a “normal” life in her hometown of New Orleans. When Lynsey gets a job cleaning pools, she meets and befriends James (Brian Tyree Henry), who owns a car-repair shop. James’ marriage crumbled a few years prior to his meeting Lynsey. The film unfolds around their bond as they help each other through life’s struggles.
