Look, it doesn't get much better than Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton. And it really doesn't get much better than Willie and Dolly singing a Christmas tune together.
Such is the gift the longtime friends have given us on Parton's new holiday album, A Holly Dolly Christmas. This fall, Parton shared a bit more on the duo's collaboration of the song, "Pretty Paper," penned by Nelson in 1963 ("Pretty Paper" is also the title of his holiday album he released in 1979) in a video for her Front Porch interview series. "I've always loved Willie's songs. And Willie wrote 'Pretty Paper'—actually Roy Orbison had the biggest hit on it—but I loved the song the first time I ever heard it and I thought that in myself, if I ever do another Christmas album, I want to do 'Pretty Paper.' So I called Willie and said 'I'm recording 'Pretty Paper' on my Christmas album. Would you be willing to sing with me on it?'" she recalls, adding that he happily agreed to not only sing on the track but play guitar on it, too. "So I'm proud of that as anything I have on the whole Christmas album....Willie is a really, really good guy and I just love him. I just think he's written some of the greatest things," she continues.
Now, we're excited to see that the inimitable pair have released an animated music video for the song. The fun video features Parton and Nelson in a horse-drawn cart, trekking along Main Street in Fort Worth, Texas, outfitted in its holiday finest. If this music video got transformed into a full-length movie, we're pretty sure we'd be equally captivated.
We have a feeling we'll be watching this one for many holiday seasons to come. How about that final scene?
