Warren endorses Bowman in contentious NY primary

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has endorsed Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) amid a contentious primary he faces to keep his seat, Bowman’s campaign announced in a press release.

“Corporate interests are spending millions against Congressman Jamaal Bowman because he’s fighting hard to deliver good jobs, quality education, Medicare for All, and a Green New Deal,” Warren said in the release.

The race between Bowman and Westchester County Executive George Latimer for the Democratic nomination for New York’s 16th Congressional District has created a divide among progressive New York Democrats after former Rep. Mondaire Jones (D-N.Y.) endorsed Bowman’s opponent.

“Together, we’ve worked with President Biden to protect renters and have plans to lower housing costs, and I look forward to continued partnership, shoulder-shoulder, to stand up to MAGA extremists and deliver for working families,” Warren continued in the release.

Bowman said he is “proud to call Senator Warren a partner in our progressive vision,” per the release.

“She knows firsthand how to fight back against the billionaire class, and I’m proud to have Senator Warren in our corner,” Bowman continued. “Together, we’re united in our mission to build a brighter, more equitable future for all, where the needs of working people are uplifted and corporations are held to account.”

Bowman also got a boost from United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain Wednesday.

“The @UAW fights for economic justice from the bargaining table to the ballot box,” Fain said in a post on the social platform X. “We need leaders like @JamaalBowmanNY who will fight for the wealthy to pay their fair share! We can’t keep electing people who are too scared to stand up to the billionaires.”
