Warnock praises Biden for focusing on election while Trump ‘runs from the jailhouse’

Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) lauded President Biden on Sunday after the president’s State of the Union speech and hit former President Trump for spending his election campaign concerned about himself and his legal dilemma.

“Joe Biden is tried, tested and true. He’s seen this nonsense before,” Warnock said in an NBC “Meet the Press” interview with Kristen Welker. “He saw it and experienced it the other night with the other side heckling in the middle of the president’s speech. And he pressed on because he’s not focused on himself.”

“Unlike his challenger, he’s not focused on what this election means for him, as Donald Trump runs from the jailhouse,” he continued. “He’s focused on what this election means for the American people, the people of Georgia. And he spoke with power the other night about the future.”

During his State of the Union speech on Thursday, Biden attacked Trump as only worried about himself while painting a brighter picture for his reelection, focusing on policy accomplishments and goals.

The speech was met with a warm reception by Democrats, as Biden ramps up attacks on Trump as the general election season kicks into high gear. The president also made clear that the stakes are high for the 2024 election.

“Not since President Lincoln and the Civil War have freedom and democracy been under assault here at home as they are today,” Biden said in the speech. “What makes our moment rare is that freedom and democracy are under attack, both at home and overseas, at the very same time.”

Trump faces multiple criminal cases, including a pair of federal cases alleging he mishandled classified documents and acted to overturn the 2020 election results.
