A Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? contestant will go all the way to £1 million on the upcoming series!
Presenter Jeremy Clarkson and ITV have confirmed today (August 21) that one very smart player managed to play the odds in their favour to answer 15 questions correctly in the hot seat.
So, who was it? Giving that away wouldn't be much fun, so viewers will have to tune in to the upcoming five-part series to find out which player will become the sixth million-pound winner in the show's history.
"Well, I'm absolutely thrilled and delighted that we've found someone who seems to know just about everything," the host said today.
"I can't wait for the viewers to see it and I want to watch it back too. I was just in awe of this contestant and think they are probably the best the show has ever had in its 22-year history. It was a joy to sit and watch it unfold.
"It felt like we whizzed through the 15 questions and all of a sudden, confetti was falling from the ceiling and I was saying, 'You've just won one million pounds.' I wasn't sure I'd ever get to utter those immortal six words and I'm not embarrassed to say, it was a little emotional but boy did it feel good."
This latest million-pound winner was victorious under unusual circumstances, since the series has been filmed under social distancing rules.
For example, there's no studio audience, making the Ask the Audience lifeline impossible. Instead, players will have the option of using Phone a Friend twice throughout the 15 questions!
Don't fret too much though, anoraks! The 50:50 or Ask the Host lifelines will be staying exactly the same – and might well come in handy at a crucial moment!
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? will return to ITV later this year.
