The Walking Dead has released a series of new images for the season 10 finale, teasing a climactic showdown with the Whisperers.

The upcoming episode, which has long been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, will finally air on October 4.

Back in April, an all-out war with the Whisperers was teased, as well as the return of favourite character Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan), who left the show in season 9. Now, we have our first proper look at the blood-soaked action.

Check out the new images below.

The episode, which is actually no longer technically the finale since six more instalments have been added to season six to air next year, will see the survivors holed up in a hospital as they prepare for battle with Beta, the new leader of the Whisperers, and his hordes.

Speaking recently on Live with Kelly and Ryan about those additional season 10 episodes, Cohan said: "I'm in Georgia now getting ready to shoot, which is now going to be part of the still season 10.

"We're doing this big chunk of episodes, and then next year we come back and do 24 more."

Well, at least we know Maggie probably won't be one of the characters to die in the Whisperers war. Unless she's going to spend the entirety of the remaining episodes as decaying zombie... Anything's possible!

The Walking Dead's season 10 finale will air as a special episode on Monday, October 5 on FOX in the UK. You can also catch up on the show via NOW TV. In the US, the season 10 finale will air on Sunday, October 4 at 9pm on AMC.
