Waiting Shoppers Wind Around Sydney Car Park as Supermarkets Fill Empty Shelves

Long lines formed outside supermarkets in Australia on the morning of March 18 as grocery chains struggled to re-stock shelves with essential items amid coronavirus-related panic-buying.

The country’s two main supermarket chains, Coles and Woolworths, introduced ‘elderly only’ shopping hours each morning to help older people and those with disabilities to beat the daily rush.

Several outlets stopped online deliveries, while customers reported that many items — such as meat products, food staples and toilet products — were out of stock.
