Volunteers battle wild fires raging in Urals

According to a report by the Aerial Forest Protection Service released on Thursday (August 26) there are currently over 50 fire points in Russia’s Sverdlovsk region, the highest number in Russia.

Yekaterinburg, the biggest city in the region, is periodically covered by smog due to fires in the neighbouring forests.

Russia has seen its annual fire season become more ferocious in recent years, as climate change has driven unusually high temperatures.
