Volcanic Ash Clouds Darken Sky Over Riobamba, Ecuador

Ash blotted out the sky over the city of Riobamba, Ecuador, after the Sangay volcano expelled a column thousands of meters high on March 11, officials said.

Footage filmed by photojournalist Riccardo Landetta shows the darkened sky over Riobamba.

According to the National Service for Risk and Emergency Management of Ecuador, the Sanguay volcano emitted a 8,480 meter column of ash westwards on Thursday, affecting seven districts in the Chimborazo province. Credit: Riccardo Landetta via Storyful
