These are the Voice Actors Behind the Most Iconic Animated Characters

For some animated movies and TV shows, producers and directors tap A-listers to bring their characters to life. Even award winning actors pick up voice acting roles, which just requires some time in the recording booth instead of hours on set in full costume. These opportunities often allow actors to play something totally against the parts they are typically cast in. Here are some of the talented actors who lend their voices to some of our favorite animated characters...

Onscreen he is best known as legendary Jedi Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films, but he indulges his evil side with his animated work. For almost two decades he's been the voice of The Joker in countless animated versions that have brought the DC villain to life. In everything from Batman: The Animated Series to Justice League to a host of video games and even a bit on Robot Chicken.

Zoinks! It was just announced this week that The Mindy Project and Office star will be voicing the title character in the upcoming HBO Max animated series, Velma, based on the famed Scooby-Doo character.

The High School Musical star also voiced tattletale sister Candace on the Disney Channel series Phineas & Ferb.

You think Harley Quinn and your mind likely pops up images of Margot Robbie in a wild outfit with a baseball bat. But while Robbie brings the iconic character to life on the big screen, The Big Bang Theory alum Cuoco voices the badass in the HBO Max series Harley Quinn.

MacFarlane can be seen in the movies Ted and Ted 2, along with the TV series The Orville, but behind-the-scenes, he is the creator of Family Guy and American Dad! And of course, as the boss, he gave himself some of the most plum parts. On Family Guy he does most of the lead male voices, including Peter, Stewie and Brian Griffin as well as Glenn Quagmire. He voices Stan and Roger on American Dad!.

The quirky actress can be seen on-screen in shows like The Last Man on Earth and 30 Rock, but she is forever linked to her animated roles as Louise Belcher on Bob's Burgers and Mabel Pines on Gravity Falls.

You probably know Kunis from That '70s Show, but she's also responsible for bringing Meg Griffin to life. Kunis has been performing this role since season 2 of the show. Lacey Chabert originally had the part but had scheduling conflicts.

The Saturday Night Live alum has racked up a huge amount of credits doing voice work on both the big and small screen. With roles in films like The Lego Movie (where he played Abraham Lincoln) to the recent Scoob! (here he voiced Shaggy) and TV shows like American Dad!, The Cleveland Show and Bob’s Burgers.

While some of a certain age (ahem!) may best remember Fagerbakke as Dauber on Coach, many others grew up hearing him as the loyal and dopey best friend Patrick on Spongebob Squarepants.

You might not see Judge that often outside of bit parts, but he's the creative mind that wrote Office Space, and created the animated series Beavis and Butt-Head. In addition to writing, he and gave voice to both of those headbanging teens. He then went on to create King of the Hill where he voiced expert propane and propane accessory salesman Hank Hill and the mumbly Boomhauer.

If Katey Sagal looks familiar, that's because she was Peg Bundy on the long-running sitcom Married... with Children and also the badass Gemma Teller Morrow on Sons of Anarchy. She's also the voice of Leela, the stunning one-eyed alien on Futurama.

The Oscar-winning actor has voiced countless animated characters, including the yellow M&M in the commercials. His voice talent can be heard on Robot Chicken, as Tenzin in The Legend of Korra and as Lenny on BoJack Horseman. He's also been tapped to reprise his J. Jonah Jameson role (the part he played in the live action Spider-Man films with Tobey Maguire) for a host of shows like Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. On the big screen he voiced Kai in Kung Fu Panda 3 and Mayor Lionheart in Zootopia.

The actress and talk-show host is the captivating voice of female spy Lana Kane on Archer. She also did a guest spot on BoJack Horseman as Sextina Aquafina.

The Arrested Development and Good Girls star voiced Tinker Bell in the big-screen and direct-to-DVD movies for Disney. She also voices Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl) for DC Super Hero Girls series. Avatar: The Last Airbender fans can hear her as Katara, and she also voices Heather in the How to Train Your Dragon spin-off cartoon series, Dragons.

The former Boy Meets World alum is an in-demand voice actor now. He voiced Terry McGinnins/Batman in Batman Beyond, plays Deadpool in Ultimate Spider-Man and Star-Lord in the animated Guardians of the Galaxy. He's also Bumblebee in many of the Transformers cartoons and voiced Ron Stoppable in the Kim Possible series.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans will always best remember Green as the beloved Oz, but he's been voicing Chris on Family Guy since 1999! He's also a co-creator (and one of the voices) on Robot Chicken, voiced Leonardo on several seasons of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, plays Rick Jones and Rocket Raccoon in Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. and plays Howard the Duck in the Guardians of the Galaxy film and Disney XD series.
