It's easy to find an excuse not to work out. Maybe you can't get out of the house, or perhaps finding the time in the schedule is your biggest challenge. It's possible that the membership fee to a local gym just isn't in the budget right now. Physical exercise is one of the best ways to relieve stress, so staying on a regular workout schedule will help you figure out how to stay calm with everything that is going on in the world. At-home workouts can help take away some of those hurdles and get you on the road to fitness. While you're busy planning your virtual happy hours, virtual book clubs, and virtual game nights, you might as well put some virtual workout classes on the schedule. You can get a vigorous workout at home without any equipment, but if you're going to be exercising at home for a while, we recommend investing in a yoga mat and some hand weights.

Right now, many nationwide fitness studios (Gold's Gym, YMCA, Peloton) are offering free online classes while we're practicing social distancing. Some local gyms, like Nexus Fitness in Birmingham, are getting in on the action by posting free workouts and live classes on Instagram. If you're a regular member of a gym, be sure to check in with your workout buddies to see how they're doing! Scheduling an after-workout Skype chat can help keep everyone accountable.

How to get started: Find yourself a spot in your home (outside on the patio or in the yard can be a great option if the weather is nice) and set up your iPad or laptop or pull the video on your smart TV. Grab some water and a towel, and pick one of the options below.
