Hollywood’s biggest celebs and rising young stars were living it up 34 years ago.

There was really only one place to be on Sept. 6, 1990: the MTV Video Music Awards! The first VMAs of the decade ushered in a new era of pop music, but the stars of the '80s still dominated. Sinéad O'Connor took home three awards, Madonna gave an instantly iconic performance and Billy Idol stole the spotlight. Meanwhile, MC Hammer, Queen Latifah and other big hip-hop stars hinted at the genre's emerging dominance.
