Two Aussies Climb Steep Slope to Rescue Koala Stranded on Riverbank

A koala that got stuck on a riverbank was rescued recently by two men on a fishing trip in Koonoomoo, Victoria.

Footage shared to TikTok by Connor Hornsey on July 6 shows his friend Cody Beau Midolo as he wraps a towel around the koala and lifts it up the slope a bit.

A nearby kayaker then holds the camera so Hornsey can help the marsupial get to the top of the steep drop-off.

Speaking to Storyful, Hornsey said, “We saw this koala on the side of a steep bank, so we waited 10 minutes to see if he could get up.” When they saw that it was unable to ascend, the two men decided to give a helping hand.

The temperature that day was 104 F, according to Hornsey, who added that the koala would have been down at the river for a drink to help beat the heat. Credit: Connor Hornsey via Storyful
