Tropical Storm Bertha Floods Mount Pleasant Roads

Tropical Storm Bertha made landfall near Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, on Wednesday, May 27, bringing heavy rain and potentially “life-threatening” flash flooding to the area, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported.

The storm was packing up to 50 mph winds and was located about 40 miles northeast of Charleston as of 11 am on Wednesday, according to an NHC advisory.

This video, shared by a Mount Pleasant Police Department lieutenant, shows a road in Mount Pleasant submerged in floodwater. The NHC said the storm was expected to bring two to four inches of rainfall, but some areas could see up to eight inches.

Forecasters projected the storm to move farther inland and weaken later on Wednesday. Credit: @MPPDGooge via Storyful
