Timelapse Shows Smoke Billowing From Numbers Fire Burning in Nevada's Pine Nut Mountains

Timelapse video taken July 7 by the Nevada Bureau of Land Management shows smoke billowing from the Numbers fire, burning at the ridgeline of the Pine Nut Mountains south of Gardnerville.

On July 9, the fire had grown to roughly 18,300 acres and was 20 percent contained, according to official reports. Three structures and 37 outbuildings had been lost in the blaze.

“Today, crews are being flown to the upper ridgeline of the Pine Nut Mountains to limit fire spread over the ridge to the east and into Smith Valley. Right now, this is the area of greatest concern for additional fire growth. Helicopters will support these crews by dropping water from buckets and delivering supplies,” a July 9 Facebook post from the Nevada Bureau of Land Management said.

A red flag warning was in effect for the area on Thursday, according to The Record-Courier. Credit: Nevada Bureau of Land Management via Storyful
