Timelapse Shows Construction of COVID-19 Hospital in Bristol

A temporary NHS hospital, ready to take up to 1,000 patients, has been built at the University of West of England’s Frenchay campus, just outside Bristol. Timelapse footage released by the NHS shows the construction, between April 1 and 8.

The hospital has been named NHS Nightingale Bristol, after a similar field hospital which was built in a converted conference centre in London.

The NHS said the hospital could care for “up to 1,000 people affected by COVID-19”. It is due to accept its first patients before the end of the month.

Elizabeth O’Mahoney, NHS regional director for the southwest, said, “The Nightingale Bristol will support our hospitals to care for critically ill patients as and when needed. We would prefer never to even admit a patient, but it will be in place if needed.” Credit: NHS Nightingale Hospital Bristol via Storyful
