Timelapse Captures Dust Storm as Brown Rain Falls Over Melbourne

As rain clouds and a dust storm combined to produce brown rain in Victoria on January 23, photographer Robert Embury took up a vantage point on Mount Dandenong close to Melbourne to create timelapse footage of the striking weather event.

Posting the results to Instagram, Embury wrote, “Melbourne woke up a little dusty this morning, and this is why. ⁣High winds ahead of an approaching front lofted masses of dust into the atmosphere, resulting in a lot of very muddy rain overnight.⁣”

Using a Canon EOS 6D Mark II to capture the timelapse, Embury added, “The dust-filled front looked pretty spectacular from the top of Mount Dandenong as it rolled through right on twilight.” Credit: Rob Embury via Storyful
