Thousands of Starfish Spotted on South Carolina Beaches

Thousands of starfish have been spotted along beaches in South Carolina in late June, local reports said.

This video, shared by Myrtle Beach resident Lindsay Hickman, shows the starfish going in and out with the tide in Garden City on Tuesday, June 30.

Beachgoers in Surfside also reported many starfish in the shallow waters near the shoreline.

It is not uncommon to see starfish at this time of year, said Ann Malys Wilson, an interpretative ranger at Myrtle Beach State Park.

An aquarist from Ripley’s Aquarium said to local media that he has lived and worked in the area for five years and had never seen so many starfish as large as those being seen now. Credit: Lindsay Hickman via Storyful
