'That's Buck!' Owner Reunited With Lost Dog Rescued Near Apple Fire

A lost dog that was found near the Apple Fire in southern California was reunited with his owner on August 5, according to Riverside County Animal Services.

Animal services said Buck, a Queensland heeler, didn’t return home after he chased away a coyote in Riverside County over the weekend. Orange County firefighters said on Monday that they found Buck near the Apple Fire, which has burned thousands of acres and prompted evacuations.

After firefighters gave Buck some water and food, the “very sweet, very loving dog” was taken in by animal services.

Buck’s owner was identified when an animal services officer happened to check on a home near the Apple Fire after hearing animals on the property, John Welsh, a Riverside County Animal Services spokesman, told local media. A man at the house told the officer his dog was missing, and it turned out to be the rescued Queensland heeler.
