Texas Volunteers Work for Hours to Free Horse Stuck in Mud

A group of volunteers worked for four hours to rescue a horse stuck in mud after severe flooding hit Splendora, Texas, on September 19.

Josh James, who recorded the video, told Storyful that the horse, named Guy, was stuck for nine hours. James is part of a team of volunteers who call themselves 3P Search & Rescue.

The team were notified via social media of a horse enveloped in mud and they happened to be in the area.

Guy is a 32-year-old show horse who stands “14 hands tall,” he said. James said the team were only able to access the horse by boat, and had already been conducting rescues for 14 hours.

“It took us four hours to dig him out,” James said.

The team was successful and, after resting for an hour, Guy was able to stand on his own.

According to the National Weather Service, Tropical Depression Imelda was forecast to bring three more inches of rain and possible flash flooding to the region on Friday. Credit: Josh James via Storyful
