Teen Hit by Drunk Driver Attends Homecoming Virtually Following Double Amputation

A 17-year-old girl who had to get both her legs amputated after she was in a car crash involving an alleged drunk driver has enjoyed a virtual homecoming dance courtesy of her schoolmates.

Teenager Sarah Frei, of Syracuse, Utah, and three of her friends were on a road trip in late July when they were involved in a head-on collision with a man suspected of driving under the influence.

Sarah was left paralyzed from the waist down and had both her legs amputated.

While the official homecoming for her class was cancelled because of COVID, her classmates decided to organize their own event, and invited Sarah to join via video call.

On the day of her virtual dance, Sarah did her own makeup and nurses painted her nails.

Sarah’s date, Andrew, also posed for photos with her beforehand at the Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Sarah enjoyed “a tender moment as she was touched by a dear friend of hers being kind enough to ask … it was a GREAT day,” a post on Sarah’s Instagram said. Credit: strong.like.sarah via Storyful
