Syrian Couple in Barcelona Perform Songs at Their Window to Entertain Neighbors
Ahmad and Aseel, a Syrian couple living in Barcelona, have been treating their neighbors to musical performances during the city’s coronavirus lockdown.
The couple have turned their window into a stage for nightly performances, with Aseel singing and her husband Ahmad playing guitar. Aseel told Storyful she is studying a master’s in music therapy. She’s also a soprano. She sings in various languages, here performing the Italian song Bella Ciao.
The couple told Storyful that their neighbors wait for them every night at 8 pm to share some moments of positivity.
“During the quarantine, streets are empty and people are getting depressed at home, most of them are old and the stress will be a risk factor that may affect their immune system, so music is the best way to stay positive and gather people despite of their nationality, job, economic level,” the couple told Storyful in a message from their joint Facebook account.
A generous applause is heard in the video here, and the couple say the reaction has been hugely positive every night. “The neighbors sometimes hold banners saying thanks, sometimes they hold Syrian flags and other times they write ‘Damascus.’ We opened the door once only to see chocolate on the doorstep,” the couple said in one of their Facebook posts.
