Strong Winds Reported as South Carolina Braces for Tropical Storm Isaias

Residents of the Carolinas braced for the arrival of Tropical Storm Isaias on Monday, August 3, with the storm expected to regain hurricane strength before it pushed ashore into the area.

Tropical Storm Isaias was packing maximum winds of 70 mph as it moved north at 13 mph, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in its 2 pm update on Monday. The storm was about 115 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina, as of 2 pm.

The storm was forecast to make landfall in the Carolinas on Monday night. Strong winds and heavy rainfall were forecast for the Carolinas and other states along the East Coast on Monday night through Tuesday, the NHC said.
