Storm Francis Downpours Cause Flooding in Irish Town

Storm Francis brought flood damage to properties in Bantry, a town in the south of Ireland, on the night of August 24-25, with Cork County Council warning of fallen trees, flooding, and road damage in a number of areas.

Up to 50 homes and businesses in Bantry were damaged during a period of prolonged heavy rain between 11 pm and 3 am.

RTE, Ireland’s national broadcaster, reported that up to 25 mm of rain fell within two hours. The county council said the local drainage system could not cope with the deluge as the ground was already saturated from Storm Ellen a few days previously.
