Steer Clear: Humans Work Together to Shield Freshly Groomed Show Cow From Rain

Jennifer Latimer caught a rare behind the scenes moment at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Washington, Pennsylvania, on August 13, when a group of people held a pop up canopy over a freshly groomed show steer to keep him dry from the rain.

Latimer watched and recorded as a competitor Kansas Ealy and her steer, Sarge, were escorted under a tent to the show ring by family and friends. “When you don’t want your fluffy cow to go flat,” she wrote on Facebook.

Latimer told Storyful, “it takes about 4 hours to prepare and fit a steer on show day. So exhibitors protected their hard work by walking thier steers to the show ring.”

Luckily for Ealy and Sarge, rain seemed to be no match and the pair made it, safely and dryly, to the show ring without a hitch. Credit: Jennifer Latimer via Storyful
