SpaceX Readies Rocket for Crew Capsule Safety Test

As SpaceX readied its Crew Dragon craft for taking astronauts into space, a January 19 unmanned flight was planned to test the in-flight abortion procedure.

The company intended to destroy its Falcon 9 rocket during the test but get the crew capsule back to safety.

The test was intended to “demonstrate Crew Dragon’s ability to separate from Falcon 9 and carry astronauts to safety in the unlikely event of an emergency on ascent,” SpaceX said.
